Hi Folks. Sorry it’s been a while since the last update. It may not look like it but we’ve acually been pretty busy this month. First of all, we wrote and began recording a brand new song which will hopefully find its way onto a split at some point this year. We’ve tracked drums and bass so far, and approached recording in a similar manner to when we recorded ‘Boat Race’ – but with a higher production value. Mike Randle is helping us record this one, so we were able to use the knowledge we learned from recording with Jase and couple it with 16 track digital simultaneous recording – where ‘Boat Race’ feature only 8 track recording. This means expanded drum mic setup, which has massively improved the audio that we’ve captured.
I recorded bass about a week ago – that’s sounding great too. I’ve been experimenting with different mic setups and pedal combinations. After my thrid attempt at tracking I was finally pretty happy with the end result. Greg’s been ill recently, so we haven’t had time to track guitar, but hopefully we’ll get that done – along with the vocals – once we get back from our tour with Beasts.
Yes we are heading off on tour with Beasts on Wednesday and will be playing a few dates in Belgium and Germany. This is our second outing to Europe this year. Here’s the dates:
Tomorrow we’re headed down to Barnsley to put the finishing touches on the album. According to Jase we need around 5 hours extra mixing time and then we just need to get the tracks mastered and they’ll be ready for distribution. Hopefully a track will hit your ears by the end of the Summer and we’re hoping to get the record out by early next year, when we are planning to tour extensively.
Hello. As you may know, we recently completed our second annual tour of Germany with our amazing friends A Hurricane’s Revenge. I really have to say thank you to everyone that helped us out on the tour. We are really greatful. The people we meet and the friends we are reunited with really make the whole process worthwhile. We had some really cool shows and great experiences, and 1 or 2 more questionable experiences while we were over there. If anyone wants to repair our dodgy equipment for free, get in touch! I’ve uploaded 1 million photos from the trip to the photos page. Check them out here.
But seriously folks, I had an amazing time. It’s a very tiring, draining experience, but to be constantly stimulated by new environments and to be able to play your songs to completely different people every night is great. Sincere thanks go to Johannes, Tom, Flo, Martin, Somaeh and her sisters. Without you, the trip would have been impossible. We have more European dates planned this year with our friends Beasts. We’ll be travelling to Belgium for 5 dates with them in August. Exciting.
Our split 7 inch is available to purchase in our online storeright now. A free high quality download is provided with every purchase. It looks and sounds great, make our day and pick one up. For north-east folks, the record is currently available in Beatdown Records, Newcastle and will soon be available in Hot Rats, Sunderland. We also have new shirtsavailable, as I mentioned below. They’re now available online too.
Last year we met some really cool people called Shields Up. Next week we are heading to Scotland with them and Joey Terrifying to play 3 dates. These are the first Scottish dates we will have ever played and we are really looking forward to it. We’ll be in Dundee, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Full listings are on the gigs page, as usual. Hope to see you there!
Hi everyone. We’re here in Germany. A few shows in and things are going very well… so well infact, that we’ve only had to call the AA once, and have only broken one guitar head! That’s the Broken Few curse for you. Anyway, despite these minor set backs we have had a good time so far. Its great to see our friends, A Hurricane’s Revenge. Here’s a few out of focus photos that Chris took.
I’m really looking forward to the next couple shows. We had some great times at those venues last year. We’re playing with some cool German Bands this year. Tom Mess played with us last night in Freiburg. It was cool to see him again.
We got to see our finished 7 inch records. They look awesome. A lot better than I expected actually. We’ll be bringing some back to England with us. Here’s a snap I got of ‘em. I’ll try to blog more when I get time, and put some of my photos up. Wish us luck folks. Once more, into the abyss.
Hi guys, we’re off to Germany today, but I have just enough time to release an image of our new shirts, designed by Drew Millward! They are fantastic, Little Michael (Evil Band Merch) has done an amazing job printing them. We are very happy. Full tour dates are up on the gigs page. The first date is Stuttgart. We are playing a secret show on 27th. I’m assured its going to be amazing, but even I don’t know where it is yet. Oh well. Hope to see you there!
When we return from Germany we’ll have our split 7 inchs. Follow us on twitter – @brokenfew for updates on the road.

We had an ace time last weekend. Two consecutive Halloween shows!
First stop was Harrogate. Nice little town you’ve got there, and some really nice people too. We couldn’t have asked for a better crowd and it was really cool that people stuck around and came out for drinks with us (at the swankiest whetherspoons I’ve ever seen) after the gig. Be sure to check out Lock & Keys, Sweet Revenge and The Grebs. All fantastic. Cheers to Ozzy for sorting that out. Dave managed to get a few photos.
Next stop was Newport, South Wales. Some how we managed to get dog shit all over my bass cab and some of Jonny’s drum gear. Not a pleasant experience. Greg threw his back out, to make matters worse. We remedied these issues with plenty detol and deep heat (respectively). Le Pub is a cool venue. Crazy Arm were playing too and we had a really good time. Cheers to Tom from Bedford Falls for sorting that out. Here’s a few more photos.
There’s also a bit of video of us playing in Harrogate, but the sound is very bad. It looks fucking insane though. Have a look here.
Finally here’s a little bit of actual news. Apparently one of our tracks will be featured on a compilation cd which accompanies “Alas Icannotswim Zine” issue #2. Very exciting. Also contributing are some great bands (and friends) like ONSIND and Winona Forever. We sent a track no one has ever heard and will never be played live. Its called Stockholm. More on that as time progesses.
There are many more photos on the photo’s page, believe it or not.
